That sounds queer ! – Line & Mara
Friday 12:00 – 14.00
Location – Visserlaan A
We are Line and Mara – a dancing duo from Berlin. We were always moving so we have our roots in Modern dance, HipHop, Tango and Swing but most of all: Balfolk. We started discovering the Balfolkscene by the young age of 12 years. Now it is our home for many years and we enjoy Balfolk dancing around Europe. And the best is: we can still dance our whole life! Isn’t that great?
This workshop (This sounds queer!) will look at us as dancing individuals. That means we will try to get away of any gender roles and other expectations from society, it‘s hard, but we gonna try as much as possible. Traditionally dance is targeted to two gendered groups, leaving a whole beautiful spectrum of identities behind. We think that however you identify, everbody should feel free to lead and follow, flead and lollow in one single dance. Together, we want to try to get away from gender roles and other expectations from society.
The workshop will be about the atmosphere that allows everyone to enjoy a Balfolk night as much as it is actually possible. When we dance we love to free ourself from judgements. Do we need to define rights and wrongs? So this time we are widening the comfort zone, expanding our knowledge about the balfolk scene and the outer world through reflections, dancing and fun. Our driving force is creativity and the moments that we could truly enjoy the freedom of choosing to dance as we wished. We invite people that would like to exchange ideas and movements on this topic and are looking forward to leave the heteronormative Balfolk zone and get political while dancing. This workshop is open to all gender!
